Five icy shakes by the river in Bangkok
How to use

5 Thai-Inspired Protein Shakes for Hot Days (No Cooking Required)

Bangkok in April. Chiang Mai in the afternoon sun. Phuket anytime. Hot weather calls for something icy, creamy and easy. So here are five shakes inspired by the flavours we all grew up with: Thai tea, mango, coconut and Magic Mocha. Each one takes about five minutes.

A quick note on quantities: these are guides, not strict recipes. Use the serving size on your Heyday pack, and add more or less liquid until it's the thickness you like.

1. Thai Iced Tea Shake

You'll need: 1 serving Heyday Vanilla Ice Cream, strong brewed Thai tea (cooled), a splash of plant milk or a plant-based creamer, ice.

Blend until frosty. Thai tea is already creamy and spiced, so it works well with the vanilla. Taste before adding any extra sweetener.

2. Mango Coconut Shake

Mango coconut shake

You'll need: 1 serving Heyday Vanilla Ice Cream, ripe mango (fresh or frozen), coconut milk, ice.

Blend it smooth. Frozen mango makes it thick and almost like soft-serve. If it's too heavy, thin it with a splash of water.

3. Magic Mocha Banana Shake

You'll need: 1 serving Heyday Magic Mocha, a frozen banana, plant milk, ice.

Blend until thick and chocolatey. It tastes like a café mocha frappé, and the banana keeps it creamy.

4. Strawberry Milkshake Smoothie

You'll need: 1 serving Heyday Strawberry Milkshake, frozen strawberries, plant milk, a few ice cubes.

Blend until thick and pink. It's a classic milkshake flavour in smoothie form.

5. Banana Peanut Shake

You'll need: 1 serving Heyday Vanilla Ice Cream, a frozen banana, a spoonful of peanut butter, plant milk.

A classic combination. The frozen banana gives the creamy thickness, so you don't need much ice.

Tips that work for all five

  • Blend if you can. It's the fastest route to a smooth shake. If you only have a shaker, give it a good 20 seconds.
  • Freeze your fruit. Frozen mango, banana and strawberries mean you need less ice, so your shake doesn't turn watery.
  • Liquid first, powder second. It helps everything mix evenly.
  • Prep ahead. Portion fruit into bags in the freezer so each shake is a pour-and-blend job.

Over to you

A shake doesn't have to taste like a gym. With a few local flavours and some frozen fruit, it can feel like a treat you'd order at a café. Pick one to try this week, and tell us which one wins.
